I have just bought a used D610 and want to tether it to my mac which uses the Monterey OS. I’ve connected the usb cable that came with the camera to usb port on my mac, opened NX tether but all the options to choose camera are greyed out. Ive switched to other usb ports, still no joy. Any advice most welcome.

I copied this from the release notes on Nikon Download Center.
Supported digital cameras
• The Z 9, Z 7II, Z 7, Z 6II, Z 6, Z 5, Z 50, Z fc, Z 30, D6, and D780
As you can see, no D610 or any other, older cameras on the supported list.
I don’t know if Sofortbild still works on new Macs. It should support the D610 if it does. I think it can still be download from the App Store.

If you use Lightroom you should be able use it to tether your D610. I believer you have to be using at least Lightroom 5.5. I'm not sure about which version of Mac OS is required for that but to use tethering with the current version of Lightroom you need to be running MacOS 11.x (Big Sur) or above.
