Aftermarket Batteries

I just bought a used Z6, as an upgrade to my old 5300.   It didn't come with a battery.   I've now bought two sets of Amazon aftermarket batteries.   The first said it was for a host of Nikon cameras and the second said it was specifically a replacement for the 15B battery.   When I put any of the four in my new camera (which I haven't been able to verify even works yet), I get an error, specifically  "This battery cannot be used.   It does not communicate properly with this camera.   To use the camera safely, choose a battery designated for use in this camera."

I have the specific Nikon battery coming...who knows when it will get here, but everything I read tells me it should accept at least some of these batteries.

Is this normal?   Could it be due to a change in software?  Could it be a problem with the camera software?

Thanks for your time.

do not use after market battery's for any nikon camera or any other cameras for these reason. first one if nikon comes out with new camera there chance will not work do to fact not setup for them read camera. second one is some battery's do not hold up as long native ones. since i read stories where they drain to fast or over heat to easy. i hate to say and all most all on my facebook groups i am in will say this your going to have to bite the bullet and go native. if about lenses or memory cards you have pic of lot. not for battery's

It can be the chip in the third-party batteries or it can be oxidized contacts in the camera. Until you get the OEM battery, we’re only guessing. You can get some DeoxIt Gold and clean the contacts. It won’t hurt anything.

I just received the new Nikon Battery and it does the same thing.   Cleaned the contacts...no change.   Guess it's going back.   Thanks for your help though.

(I am no fan of 3-party branded batteries and therefore do not consider them, for number of the reasons that Peter mentioned)

But now you have a new Nikon battery that is not working on your used Z6 (basically leaving only the initial battery to work)

It can happen that a new battery is not working and thus needing a return, but I would also look for other possible issues here

Just a thought. Did you try charging the new battery fully and leave it in the camera for some hours? If the camera has been lying around for a long time without a battery, the internal battery in the body might be empty and the camera revives once this has charged again.

I'll try that before I send it back, thank you

any time you get new battery always full charge them before your use them. unless like me when i got my e-bike the battery had to be tested with bike first to make sure no issue with battery working or not on bike or to see if causing any issue with the bike. but as for camera battery always full charge when get new one.

I did charge the Nikon battery to full and left it in the camera for a few hours....same thing when I turned it on....Oh well, it was something to try.
