I just purchased the z5 and am have difficulty setting up BBF.

After an extensive search the only BBF tutorials I could find pertain to the 6and7 models and am assuming it's the same process.

The steps I am using are:

A7 Activation is OFF

A1 and A2 are set as release

F2 AE button is selected

On my D750 the shutter button is completely disabled and will work after the BBF has been pressed.

I find on the z5 the shutter button can still be pushed 1/2 way down without actually focusing.

Is this they way the shutter is supposed to operate?

Thank you.

I don't have a Z5 so I may be misunderstanding your problem. However, I believe that the Z5 has a dedicated AF-ON button. Pressing that should initiate auto focus which will continue as long as you keep the AF-ON button depressed . The shutter button should work as usual except for auto focus. You mentioned some other settings that I'm not familiar with but on my Nikon DSLR's I have them set to AF-C and shutter release priority.

Perhaps one of our Z camera users can diagnose your problem better. Hopefully, one of them will jump in.

BTW... welcome to the forums!

Thanks Ron,

I'm going to chock this one up to learning curve!  Actually I went back to my D750 and compared it to that set up then it made sense.

Like others have stated, I can never go back to Auto Focus!!

Appreciate the response.

I have another technical issue and I'll start a new thread for that.

Happy to be here...
