Hello everyone. I have just installed the new (free) Nikon NX Studio software, on both my MacBook Pro (macOS 11.2.2) and my Dell XPS 13 (latest Win 10 64bit). The software runs perfectly on macOS but will not start up on Win 10. Watching the process monitor, it runs for 2 secs without bringing up a window, then either crashes or is killed (there seem to be no log files).

I'm guessing the issue is related to access to the laptop USB port(s) for Nikon Transfer.

Has anyone else experienced this? I assume NX Studio runs for at least some Win 10 users. I have logged a report with Nikon in the meantime.

Thanks and best regards, Mick.

Win 10...In my case Windows is rebooting due to a 'bugcheck' after a few minutes.

Have uninstalled/reinstalled a few time....even used an aggressive uninstall with Revo with no remedy.

Will wait for the next version!

Runs normally on my Mac and without a sweat but, though I know
it is v. 1.0, there are good ideas but a few bugs too… it will mature.

Hi again.

I reported the install issue to Nikon, who responded that they were unaware of this issue.

I then uninstalled NX Studio completely on Win 10 Pro. I reinstalled and this time only the Nikon Message 2 app was installed! I then just re-ran the installer and this time it installed all 3 required Nikon apps (NX Studio, Nikon Capture 2, Nikon Message 2). I believe that Nikon Transfer was missing from my first installation.

NX Studio now works well! I hope that this helps someone else. Cheers!!

Same issue - also reported to Nikon Support.  NX Studio shuts down, sometimes immediately, sometimes after a minute or two of navigation between folders, or attempting to open a NEF file to view or edit. My MS Event Log is indicating the problem is caused by Asteroid11.dll (apparently a Nikon file) installed with NX Studio.  I'll post when I hear back from Nikon.  BTW - I have tried the reinstall of the software package several times with no change to the symptoms.

After a couple days I reinstalled and it is running well...but a bit clunky!

We shall see… only v. 1.

Let's hope the development goes a bit faster than it did with Capture NX-D. It wasn't until v 1.3.2 it became usable from a workflow standpoint. It is already better than NX-D 1.2 or earlier was.

That is what I meant earlier with their "poor record" but they already have
the cumulated experiences of their previous proprietary softwares.

My doubts come from observing proprietary softwares like Focus, to name
just one that I qualify as not so great, considering its famous producer.

Maybe NX Studio will come out great in a (very?) near future.

Update - been back and forth with Support, sending files and dumps.  Still having an issue on a Lenovo 8th gen i7 running Win10Home.  Interestingly, though, the app works fine on an older HP laptop (older gen i5) running the same level OS.  Must be a driver or hardware compatibility issue, for me, not sure why others may have issues and why many seem to have no issues.

BTW - Nikon Support thinks I have corrupted files on the Lenovo but I have not been able to confirm.  The files on the HP are the same (copied over) as the files on the Lenovo but work fine on the HP.

Hello all

I installed V1.0 a week of so ago - runs ok for me.

Win 10 / 64bit

HP all-in-one PC with 16Gb ram.

Perhaps a driver issue as suggested.

Regards

Pete

I haven't installed it on any of my windows machines yet. However, while looking through the system requirements for NX-Studio I noticed that it apparently requires that the Windows computer you install it on be one which had Windows 10 installed from the factory. Not machines that were originally Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 and then upgraded to Windows 10.

Since the only Windows 10 machine I have is a laptop which was upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Pro, I pretty much decided that it probably wouldn't work on my hardware.

I'd be interested to know if any of you have successfully installed and run NX-Studio on an upgraded Windows computer.

My 2 main PCs started with Windows 7 and progressed to Windows 10 64 bit

As previously posted it hiccuped on both machines....but after a period I reinstalled and it did work OK.

Sadly time constrains meant I had to submit and pay for an alternetive!!

Thanks for the comeback. I appreciate it.

Since I'm tethered to the Adobe ecosystem for the time being, I guess I'll hold off on upgrading to NX-Studio. I really don't need the hassle.Truth be known, I have only sporadically used NX-D even though I've been tempted at times to use it more because of the good reviews I've seen about the way it handles NEF files.

Update to my last Update - after going through extensive Driver updates - no change, still shutting down when opening a folder of NEF files.  Oddly, though, if the folder was just JPG files the app stayed open but what's the fun in that, eh?

Then I focused on a new Transfer2 folder with just 38 shots, unlike the previous folders I have been trying to work in with many. many more files.

NX Studio works!  More testing to come but I'm pleased with what it can do.  It may be I just need to manage my storage "plan" and just use NX Studio with fewer files in the Folder.

If you have files that are copied over from another system, I wouldn’t be surprised if your registry is corrupted. Windows has never liked copied system or application files as an install changes more in the registry than it does the files.
