I think I'm the opposite - as I do lots of sports photos!
B&W night shots. People, architecture, whatever I can find.
I would like to do some night time street shots, if I ever find the time to go downtown on a busy Saturday night.
I love to shoot people with as narrow a depth of field as possible--wide open apertures to get tack sharp eyes with focus falling off immediately and creamy, blurred backgrounds (if no one minds, I'll use the term "bokeh"--some people find the word trendy and objectionable).
Also love to do long nighttime exposures.
I'm with Russ and nbanjogal - sports with frozen motion and lots of bokeh!
I've never heard any issues with the term bokeh...have heard (and used) the term for years...oh well - sorry if it offended anyone...

...doesn't bother me a bit.
OK for those simple souls out there like myself, who have never heard of the term 'Bokeh' before this forum discussion commenced (yet another example of the benefits of being on this site!) here is a useful link: http://photo.net/cas...ns-forum/00aOroAlden, you crack me up!!!!! XD
I use the term bokeh all the time but discovered that some of the established, old school photographers really hate it. Now I'm a bit paranoid, I guess.
Now the real question: how the heck do you say it? Yes, I've seen articles and forums devoted to something so ridiculous. Ah, well, it's good for a giggle.

Bokeh is becoming rather passé. The word is still not allowed in Scrabble and probably never will be.
Alternatives to bokeh: out of focus area, blurred background, depth of field.
One of my favorite techniques is using ring flash for portraits.

Or rather, lack of depth of field
Unless there isn't anything to create the bokeh I do prefer my bird shots to have it. If I see a bird shot that has a messy background it usually gets trashed. That being said BIF is one of my favorites to utilize bokeh, but that is easier said than done. Seeing that you have no control over where the bird is flying relation to the background. As well as the distance between you and them.
On a side note auto correct shows bokeh as being incorrectly spelled.
I askead a friend who reads japanese about the term bokeh and this is what he had to say about it from a linguist's perspective:
"Bokeh is a bad translitteration from japanese and does not even originally mean anything about the quality of the blur, it just means blur. ボケ味 or translitterated boke-aji means blur quality"
This doesn't keep the term from becoming english in the future but it is not part of any dictionary yet.
