So I am wanting to start doing some wedding and other event photography more often, so far it has all just been word of mouth work from family and friends but now I really want to start advertising and doing it as a main income.

I have the issue of wether I go for the D3 or a D800 due to the megapixels, I just wanted to know from peoples experiences when it comes to printing out what would be the smarter choice.

- Iv been lucky enough to Rent and shoot with both so ergonomics isn't an issue.

- Second hand the D3 is about the same as a new D800 so price isn't to much of an issue, and I just rent the lenses until I can afford to buy them.

- specs I know are similar the only thing that really differs in the body and what its made from, along with FPS and resolution.

I guess my question is in short, If i get the D3 I now I can also do sport events and earn some money there, but if i get the D800 when I'm printing out large is it really that much better? and would I ever really be printing out something THAT big a D3 wouldn't suffice?

12Mp vs 36 is a huge difference.  For large prints, the D800 will be the winner hands-down.  You're not going to see as big of a difference between the D800 and the D3x (not the D3) if you opted for the 24-megapixel model, but the D800 still does better in terms of dynamic range and color.

The D800 still works fine for sports thanks to its fast AF speed, you just have to time your shots better ;)

Adam Thanks, I always hear about this Dynamic Range and colour but still have no idea about it? could you care to explain what Dynamic Range is.

Also from what I have been told 12Mp is still fantastic for printing big sizes but that is something I haven't Measured such as how big can you print before it becomes noticeable, I would like to print something about 1 meter long and around 60-80cm high.

Also with the D3x I feel its way to over priced, and what its still sitting around like honestly I would rather get a D4 and spend the extra on a second had D3, or D700 OR get a D800 for that. :/ i personally feel that the D3x is a bit rude.

Eager to hear from you Adam :) ty
