Hello,

I just joined a few weeks ago after purchasing a new D850.   I have taken almost 1,000 pictures on the new SD Card. SanDisk Extreme Pro 128 GB.  Yesterday I took a 24hr trip to Newport RI slept next to the ocean to watch the sunset.  I walked around taking pictures of the night life by all the marinas..   I get home today and only 15 of the 90 pictures are missing..   the other 800 from the last few weeks are there.  And the first 5 of this trip and the last 10 of the trip are there.  Otherwise everything in the middle are missing.  I put the SD card directly into the computer and I also used a card reader.. and nothing..  Im running a scan right now after googling.  But its not telling me anything.  Has this happened to anyone?  Ive never had this happen with SanDisk SD cards..  I capture so many cool photos..  The Jamestown bridge, all the lights.  Street muscians. The marinas at night.  The lighthouse in Point Judith.  Im soo upset.  Just started out and I drove 4 hours each way just to take photos at one of my favorite places.  Help!

First, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about missing photos. I suppose that the photos are missing both when viewed in the camera and when the card is inserted in a computer?

Did you format the card in camera prior to using it?

I have so far had the good fortune and not losing any photos, but that might certainly happen in the future. To have some extra safety I have my cameras set up to save photos to booth slots.

With your card you could try this:

- Until the problem is resolved, don't use this card in your camera, insert a new one

- First backup the card so at least you don't lose any more photos already on there

- With the card you should have received a one year subsciption to a file recovery software. I would try this and see if you can recover the lost files/photos.

- After trying that, format the card in the camera.

- If the probleme appears again with the same card, Sandisk cards have a liftime warranty so you should be able to have it replaced

I suggest you try SD card recovery programs, such as BItwar Data Recoevry, Stellar, recoveryangel, etc. which are usually easy to perform. But you'd better not write new picture on the card before recovering the missing picture.

You mention it was a SanDisk Extreme card. That card normally comes with a free download of RescuePRO recovery software. However, if the software does not recognize the card, as it can't "see" it, you should consider sending it off for professional recovery.
