I want to use the SB-600 on my new Nikon Coolpix P1000.

The P1000 User Manual says I can use the SB-5000, SB-700 or SB-500 Speedlights. I asked Nikon about using my SB-600. Nikon said the SB-600 is discontinued and they cannot answer my question.

The only constraint is this statement in the P1000 User Manual: "Use only Nikon Speedlights. Flash units of other manufacturers (with voltages over 250V applied to the camera's X-sync contact...could not only prevent normal operation, but damage the sync circuitry of the camera or flash."

Where is the X-sync contact, and how do I verify that no more than 250V is being applied to it?

I don't want to wreck my camera, but I don't want to buy a new Speedlight if I don't have to.

Any suggestions?
