I recently upgraded my 10 year old D80 to a brand new D7200. I love shooting long exposures at night for star trails and low light landscapes. When I got home from shooting last night and looked at my shots on the computer, I was floored and heartbroken to see the utterly insane amount of hot pixels across the entire image. The below image was shot RAW at ISO 100, 13mm, f4 for 30 minutes. Long exposure noise reduction, and D-lighting were both off.
I've read about methods of trying to fix this in post production, or turning the log exposure noise reduction on and doubling the wait time for shooting, but I'm freaking out because my D80 never did this. I have 45 minute shots with that camera at ISO 100 that never had any hot pixels. Is this normal for the 7200 or did I get a defective camera? Have sensors changed that much???
Thanks for the help/advice!
