I created an account on this forum to find help among Nikon users, my trouble started a bit more than a month ago : I couldn't use the liveview when choosing any others aperture than the largest one, if I choose for example 2.8 and not 1.8, the liveview would automatically stop and show me the ERR message. That's a big deal since I use the liveview a lot, and even if I use the viewfinder, and choose f4 for example, my D600 would take the shoot, but at the greatest aperture .. my only choice is to turn the lens halfway like if I was going to remove it, and use the aperture ring to shoot .. not a problem for me, I have 95% of full manual lens, but it's a big problem for the quality of the shoot (focus at infinity is not as good etc ..)
I made a video to show the problem :

Thanks for your help !
Antoine.

Have you tried cleaning the contacts on both lens and camera?
Have you checked that neither of the actuator arms is damaged?
Have you tried setting the camera to use the aperture ring to set the aperture with AF and AF-D lenses? I don't remember exactly where in the menus this setting hides, but I think it is somewhere under custom setting f5.

Yes, Peter got the right point to start: the contacts
of both the camera and the lens… typical.

Nothing special happened after I cleaned the electronic contact on the lense and on the camera, I tried the setting you said, and now I don't have the Err issue with the liveview when using others aperture than the largest one. But when taking a capture at f5.6 for example it still capture it with the aperture wide open. Same with the live-view.
I don't know where I can find the actuator arms, is that the little arms you can slide on both the lens ?

On the camera (if it's what is in the circle) it does not move at all
Actually it kinda slide down but get stuck at mid distance, then I have to push a bit more to slide it to the end.
On my d90 it slide down very smoothly

It shouldn't move, so that is a good thing. It only moves when opening and closing the shutter to control the aperture. There is a corresponding arm on the lens and if one of them is bent, the camera won't stop the lens down, alternatively not open the aperture fully.

Hi,
I'm back with a solution to the problem, it's probably not the best one but it does the job very well :
I need to remind everyone that I'm a "full manual guy", you won't be able to control the aperture via your camera with this solution, but that's not a problem for me, I just want to be able to take picture at other aperture than the largest one.
To give more details, here's what happen : I put mechanical arm down one step with my finger, put a lens on the camera .. and I'm able to choose my aperture like I want .. it's perfect, but as soon as I switch my lens for another one, the arm comes back up, and the problem comes back as well. So I decided to put some paper, that way the arm won't be able to go bak up.

Tiens, un débrouillard!
The problem with your solution id that the paper will release
a lot of fibre in the mirror chamber.
I would suggest you to visit a camera atelier!

Haha oui on fait comme on peut ! Je pensais pas trouver un Français/Canadien ici !
