The problem is that you need a hood with cutouts to clear the corners @ 18 mm. The original hoods for the different 18-55 versions all work well. I think there are third-party equivalents available on e-bay.

If it is a bayonet mount, it won't fit the 18-55, plus you will get significant vignetting with it at wider focal lengths with such a design.

Why do you want such a big hood on your 18-55?

You can get an Vello HB-69 (I believe that's the correct number) from B&H for around US$13. The OEM hood is about double that plus a couple of bucks more. The hood you're looking at up there wouldn't work correctly on your lens and would vignette like crazy!

Which version of the 18-55 is it you have, exactly? The Nikon hoods for the 18-55 lenses are all bayonet-mounted.

this is what i have af-p dx nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6g. it came with insert that makes 55mm-52mm so i can add on a 52mm lens insert. i do not like screw on hood since it get to tight around insert to screw off. i want one that does not screw into insert. i want one like other full circle one where it screws in to lens and not insert. not sure when i got package deal for my camera it came that way.

The hood you need is the HB-N106. You can get either the Vello copy or an original. B&H sell them both. https://www.bhphotov...Top Nav-Search= They mount using the bayonet on the outside of your lens, so when you have mounted them correctly, they can't twist.

It is a great disservice to beginners that most of the beginners' kit lenses don't come with the hood anymore.
