Hello Forum - could use some help.  The P900 does not have a hot shoe and I'm looking for suggestions on off camera flash trigger that would sync with (ignore) the pre-flash burst of the built in flash.  I would like to just get a trigger but don't believe that is possible and need to get a flash???

I've looked at the LumoPro LP180 and LP180R as someone recommended those to me as an option.

As a amateur, I have a lot to learn about flash specifications and use....attending the four day Capture Photo Con event here in Phoenix this week and attending as many classes as I can regarding lighting.  I've taken a couple classes from local photographers and in both instances I was not able to fully participate in the portrait sessions as I was not able to trigger the studio lights.  In a couple of the classes at Photo Con I'll need to be able to trigger the lights and hope to find a solution before attending.  In my home set-up, I have continuous lighting and use a CN-160 LED light with bracket on my camera.

Thanks!!!

Can you set the power manually on the P900 flash? Most Nikons don't preflash when using manual flash. If you set it to a low power setting, it won't affect the exposure and you can use a standard optical slave. These are built-in in studio strobes and most better speedlights. If you don't have one in your flash, Hama sell one that works about as well as the old Nikon SU-4 did and doesn't cost much.

I had an SU-4 on order for like two years before Nikon finally decided to tell B&H that the item was discontinued. That turned out to be good because it finally convinced me to go to radio slaves. But yeah. Optical slaves seem to be the only option here.
