Hey I'm looking for compression and exporting recommendations!
Unfortunately, I took an awesome picture of a drone in flight while my Nikon was set to save NEF / RAW files.... So I have this great shot I've edited in Gimp and it appears crystal clear until I upload it to Facebook.
I've tried setting it to Facebook's sizing recommendations (720px, 960px or 2048px wide) as well as compressing the file size to under 100KB. I export it to JPG for my personal color preferences. The picture looks great on my computer still, and then I upload it to an HD folder on Facebook and it's disgusting...
Anyone know the exact parameters I should use in GIMP or what I should set each individual compression/color/etc option to when exporting? Any advice is appreciated!!! I want this photo to sparkle online a little more than what I've been able to achieve so far. Thanks!

I don't use GIMP, but what colourspace do you use for the jpg conversion? sRGB is still the only web safe option as so many web sites and browsers still don't handle the extended colourspaces. Another factor is that you usually need to sharpen a photo after reducing the size. If GIMP doesn't have a good sharpen output for web setting, Sharpener Pro is free and works as a standalone for both MacOS and Windows, just like the rest of the Google Nik suite. Colour management was always the weakest part of GIMP.

My facebook export settings in Lightroom are: sRGB colour space, 2048px on long side, jpg, 80% quality and normal screen sharpening.
Should be able to transfer those settings to most programs.
The 100kb is only for cover photos. Normal ones don't have to be that small. From my experimenting a couples weeks ago Facebook likes to compress your images down to ~250kb. Regardless of what size, jpg or png I threw at it, all my photos come back to roughly that size.
