Hi I'm new here  I've been using a compact camera with nice features and done some pretty decent photography and sent out nice photo gifts for Christmas not expecting anything in return. To my surprise my father loved the photo book I had made for him so much he said He wants to buy me an upgrade! I am so happy because I've been planning to save for a d3200 as my next step in my hobby so he is getting me one with accessories as an early birthday gift... At my age i don't expect any big deal over my birthday but my dad insists lol!  He said for me to pick it out because I would know what I want as far as upgrade. I had done plenty of research, read and watched reviews and found this would be my perfect step up. I love nature photography taking photos of my children and grandchildren, and some of moving objects such as trains, but still not good with inanimate objects.  I have plenty to learn and I know there are people on here with plenty of experience and helpful tips, as well I look forward to interacting with you all. ,

Welcome aboard and congrats on getting a D3200- it will certainly open up new possibilities compared to a compact :)

As a music venue photographer I use a D3200 when shooting rowdier venues. It is good enough to look like I used the D800 at a slightly less risk of expensive damage. Most clients cant tell the difference.

The 3200 is a great camera! Despite that it's labeled the "entry level" there are a lot of things that are desirable for professional photographers.  For instance, it is crazy light, and for nature photographers like yourself, that will be a major plus if you're out hiking with it etc.
