Hi Paul, had a quick look at your shots. A couple show signs of movement blur when you have taken them.(you not the bee) Did you lock up the mirror and use a cable release? Even pressing the shutter can cause enough vibration for blur at 500mm. Do you focus manually or rely on af?.

Thanks, Jeff. I am super new to all this. But at night when I go over all this stuff, I was thinking: I need a cable realease. My lenses are all manual.

You will need a ~100mm lens, autofocus, small aperture, shutter speed above 1/200s and no tripod. Chase the bees around the bush and shoot them from a foot away.

Hmm... If these are the best shots, you might want to rethink your technique and learn the difference between a bee and a wasp too.
You will need a ~100mm lens, autofocus, small aperture, shutter speed above 1/200s and no tripod. Chase the bees around the bush and shoot them from a foot away.
