Would anyone be interested in participating in a weekly challenge?

Our daily single lens challenge fizzled back in November, but several people mentioned an interest in participating in some sort of regular challenge. We already have a monthly contest put on by the forum administrators, so perhaps a weekly challenge would be in order.

We could have a thread for each week where participants could submit a photo. My hope is that weekly threads would prevent challenges from getting too long and hard to follow (we don't want anybody's photos getting lost or overlooked!).

If there is interest, would you want it to be a general challenge? For instance, just give us your best shot this week by Sunday night.

Or would you prefer a theme assignment each week? (Sunset, red, lines, etc.)

Honestly, I'm already pretty busy shooting to assignment each week, so I'd prefer a general "give it your best shot," but I'd also be willing to go along with what everyone else wants.

Whaddaya think? Yea? Nay?

Anyone? Anyone…?

I am up for it...barring something I don't expect, I'll be shooting a few times a week between now and late June so I'll definitely have images to choose from...most of mine will be sports, so I would favor the best shot option as well.  With multiple games a week, I doubt I'd have the chance to do assignment related photography unless an opportunity happend to present itself at the right time...

A free format, just the best shot of the week probably has the best chance of running for more than a few weeks.

An incentive to just go out with a camera and see what you get, or try some new techniques in artificial lighting or something else creative would be nice.

I have been swamped with paid work since mid-january, that's possibly why I've posted so much text and little photos for a while. Reading the forums is a nice way to relax while post-processing. A challenge that runs weekly would be another way of clearing the mind and do something different.

I'd be up for it too Nicole. Best shot of the week sounds good.

A weekly contest with "your best shot" sounds good and should provide the possibility for everybody to post without the restriction of a subject assignment.

I like the best shot option. I think a lot of people want to share a pic occasionally but don't want the constraints of a specific assignment.

I'm willing to give it a go.  At the minimum it will induce me to shoot more often.

Sounds like best shot!! I already rack my brain to produce a FlickrFriday and MacroMonday for two Flickr groups. I like the challenge of the themes, but I also like the restriction of having to go through the images you produce in a week and choose your fav. Maybe some of those would make the cut.

Can I add that it's sometimes nice to see EXIF data and lighting info for shots. Particularly if you're new to the camera scene. I have no trouble sharing shot data, but I know that others may not feel the same. I think there's a minimum of info shared with each image, but it might be nice to add as much as you can.

Will we have the cutoff time be local time or any particular timezone?

I know this is an international crowd, and we are kind of at the late end of every day out here in the west, so I was thinking we could just let it be midnight Sunday, local time. That way everyone has a chance to procrastinate until midnight their time. :)

What do you think?

It is a challenge not a contest, so I don't think that rules should be very strict.

However if there should be som rule for submission and it being an international crowd that participates, I would simply go for GMT+0, but for what weekday ? I.e. 0:00 on Sunday, or 0:00 on Monday?

I like it. Midnight local time makes it easy for everyone.
