I have just been GIVEN a MINT F65 + 2 Zoom lenses .   I have been going through the Manual. It sets film speed by the 'DX Coding method BUT I want to LOWER the ASA for outdated film and cannot find a ' Manual ASA Setting, only DX coding'  My question IS : to  defeat the DX Coding do I set 'Manual Exposure' and make settings using a seperate WESTON MASTE V meter ?

Either that or dial in some exposure compensation to use the built-in meter.

Another option is to get some DX code stickers to place over the default DX code. You can find them in eBay if you search "DX code stickers".

i have used both  'Manual Metering' using readings from a Weston Master V and also using the  '+ 1 stop compensation method . and got good results.I also took a few on a Nikon AI 50mm f1.8 NIKKOR from a FE using Manal Focus and  Manual Exposure.

made a MISTAKE -- it was a NIKON F75 NOT F65 !

I did a VIDEO all about it with some print results --
