Hello, I just purchased  an AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D lens for my NIkon D750 Camera and I can not get the in focus beep to work and also I do not understand the aperature ring and how it works. Can anyone help please?

Do you have the orange lock ring on lock?  It's just in front of the aperture dial and needs to be in the ''Lock'' position to function, orange dot to orange arrow and ring at f22, the ring shouldn't move when locked.  This is the first thing I would check, quick simple and free.

 The 17-35mm f2.8 AF-S is a great lens, enjoy!

Here's a properly set one for AF

Yes I have tried it locked at f22 and unlocked at f22 myriad times. We have set all the settings to the default settings a few times also. The person at Nikon also had me do things that had no effect like taking out the memory cards, taking out the battery and removing the lens then visa versa to no avail... Last thing was I asked Luke at Nikon to ask all his Nikon buddies if they have suggestions and I have not heard anything... very frustrating.. thanks for you interest. Elizabeth

I may have misunderstood part of your question, It focuses, but just doesn't beep?  I have a D750, but use the older Nikkor 20-35mm f2.8 D lens.  If mine beeps, I don't notice it, my hearing is that bad, so it's something that's a non-issue for me.  I'm guessing you have the aperture ring figured out...front command dial.

If Peter here, (Merco_61) hasn't any suggestion, I would say try B&H in NYC.  877-849-6359 or you can bring up the D750 on their site and ask there in the Q&A section.

If the issue is the missing beep, then there could be different (valid) reasons:

1/ the beep volume is set to its minimum
The sound is not audible

2/ you have set autofocus to AF-C
It would beep all time, therefore the beep is deactivated

3/ you have set autofocus to AF-S AND set shutter Release priority
As you want the camera to take the picture independent of whether it has got the focus, the beep is deactivated

You will be able to check if it depends on the lens (which I don’t think) by using a different lens

I have a D750 camera and I just bought a

AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED lens

I can not set the aperture within the camera. I have to use the aperture ring on the outside of the camera to set the aperture.

When I went to the camera store, the sales person put the lens on a Nikon D750 and he was able to change the aperture in the camera. Was on the phone with Nikon for over an hour and they could not fix it either. Very weird.

Thank you again,

Elizabeth

If this does not help on its own (but you need to apply also for the following), check what mode you are in, changing the Aperture will work in A (Aperture priority) or M (Manual).
Be sure to use the good dial.

If this still doesn’t help, do a factory reset while using the function in the Menu.
