They were amazing cameras, but the whole "looking like a gun" thing was a little worrying - allegedly people have been shot after cameras like that were mistaken for guns. Or just because they were big enough to look like the photographer was spying across a border or into a security area.
I think the lenses with the largest number of aperture blades I see routinely are the big T-mount 500mm f8 lenses (typically 13 blades) and the Meyer-Optik Görlitz Orestor 135mm F2.8 which is 15 blades, both manual aperture. It's not something you see much on auto-aperture lenses, the friction etc. of that many blades is problematic, so they usually make do with less. The photosniper is an oddity because it's a cocked lens, not fully auto - there are big springs to shut it down quickly, and you have to manually open the aperture after each shot.
