Greetings all,

I have been testing both the Nikon D3xxx and Nikon D5xxx series bodies and was seriously advised to avoid purchasing any of those models.  I was strongly advised to seek out a Nikon D7100 or Nikon D7200 body.  I do still very much enjoy floral photography, landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, some indoor portrait work and outdoor model shoots.  I am also considering returning to a 2 1/4 square format, which I miss tremendously.  Many thanks for any and all helpful hints and

suggestions.

Kind regards,

Tonytee.  :)

What reasons were you given to avoid those models?

There are certainly fans of the early D7XXX series out there but there a lot of happy D3XXX and D5XXX users too. The latest in those series, D3500 and D5600, are fine cameras. I personally have a D7500 that replaced my D5600 but I did so because, as I determined the subjects that interested me (e.g., BIFs), I found that the D7500 better addressed my needs.

Since you say you've been testing D3XXX/D5XXX bodies, the real question to answer for yourself is whether any of them fit your style of shooting and preferred choice of subjects.

bluzman, I have a feeling that what Tony isn't telling us now is his like for old screw-drive and manual focus lenses. They work as intended on D7000, D7100, D7200 and the three-digit bodies but either won't AF or won't meter the light on a D3xxx, D5xxx or the D7500.
