First off, hello from New Orleans! i'm a new member, and i look forward to chatting.

I have an F2 that i love but the light meter just died. I am trying to decide what to do. I could buy a DP-1 viewfinder and keep going, but i've yet to see one with a working meter. I could sell the camera as is and buy another F2. I could buy a handheld meter and keep the camera. Or, i could upgrade to a used Medium Format film camera....Decisions!! What are your thoughts. I really love medium format, so not out of the realm of possibilities (regardless of my F2 decision)....

Thanks!---Lauren

There is another option... Upgrade the F2 to an F2A by getting a DP-11. It is easier to find still working DP-11 photomics than the venerable DP-1. To get the full advantage, you should use at least some Ai or Ais lenses.

Getting a good handheld meter is a great idea if it suits your style.

An F2A is one of the three Nikons I have had that became an extension of my hands from the start. The other two were the SP and the F4. Unfortunately, I had to sell off the F2 and the SP as well as my collection of S-mount glass some years ago when I needed new studio strobes.

I never bonded with the F2AS or the F2S I had, but I always liked match-needle better than LEDs for the light meter.

This guy is in Utah. He fixed my Photomic FTn finder for me recently. In short he made it like new. The cost was extremely reasonable. He can more than likely make your F2 like new as well.

The fact that you are putting yourself in the position of possibly getting rid of your F2 means it's time to move on and get that medium format camera that you love.
