I am testing — for a shop in the capital city — a so called continuous
LED ring flash for macro.
The unit is very small, lightweight, and front lens filter thread mounted.
It is either batteries (4x AA) of DC line powered.
The variable power output (max. 480 lumen at 1 meter) is reliably cons-
tant at 5600K (0 through 100%) and will run at full power for 3.5 hours.
A set of step down rings from 67 to 49 is includes. All for under 50€!

Does this thing happen to have a brand name, and is it available in the states?
I've thought about getting something like this to mount on a second camera for impromptu flower closeups while my main camera remains on it's tripod for wider shots. Moving those strobes around just to set up a closeup gets old in a hurry.

… no idea, Ron.
The unit I was given came well packaged in a generic white box.
I do lots of gear testing for some importers / distributors in the EU.
My job was to test thoroughly for performance and stability with
my appreciations on design, making and market acceptance.
I recently tested a range of 105 mm ND filters for the same co.
CORRECTION
The unit is a 67 mm screw mount and a 58~67 mm ring is included,
the other rings are extra.

OK, fair enough. It does seem to do a nice job although I would like to see how it does with some other subjects. Which lens did you use it on?

The unit was fitted to the Nikkor 105 ƒ 2.8 macro / D3S combo.
What is important to know is that the circular array of 60 LEDs work
well on none reflective surfaces cause one won't see the little lights
nor the circle.
I kept very few of the test shots, only the very significant files that do
represent a challenge, a solution, an interest.
