I currently shoot a trusty old d7000. I have loved that camera long time. Its been good, but it is time to retire her. I have been saving my pennies for a z6. I had no doubt that was my next camera. Then yesterday that z50...and now I'm full of doubt. lol

I know the z50 is all I really would ever need. I'm just a mom that likes to torture my children and pets basically.

Its just the lenses seem like such a step back. I wasn't even truly excited about the 24-70, but a 16-50. Ummm, yuck. Seems like there would be a lot of lens swapping required. I love the range of my current 18-105.

Soooo, but, I could just buy the body and keep my current lens until nikon came out with a step up dx walk around lens? What would I be giving up not shooting the native z lens??

Or should I just keep saving and stick to my original plan for the z6?

So many questions now. What would you do?!

At the moment from a technical point cant see you losing any thing using your F mount 18-105 on the Z50.

As for should you wait i dont know the full frame was never on my list as my type of subjects would need cropping so it would be a waste.

The Z50 lacks in-house shake reduction, which in my mind is a real drawback. I can se the price attraction with the new Z50, but having used bodies with internal SR for a long time I would either save up for the Z6 or wait for the next APS-C Z-model and hope for an upgrade.

I felt the same at first, then i got thinking i have two cameras with internal SR but if i am using a lens with it i choose the lens SR.

The 18-105 is a DX lens, correct?  While DX lenses work on FX bodies, I would not recommend that combo.  If you want to continue to use your 18-105 then the Z6 and Z7 aren't going to be a good choice.  As far as the image stabilization, the D7000 doesn't have it so you won't be missing something you had.

Lens SR is known to work best with long telephoto lenses which is what you're using most judging from your posts. In general I prefer in-house SR 7 days a week any week and if you're not using long telephoto lenses (say 300 mm or less) it's defenitely an advantage.

Note that other than the Z DX lenses all the Z lenses are without vibration reduction in lens. They are relying on the Z6 and Z7 in camera vibration reduction. Hence with Z50 you will not have vibration reduction using all these Z lenses.
Only the Z DX lenses are with Vibration Reduction but only have 3 lenses in the roadmap (16-55, 55-250 & 18-140).

I ordered one too. I went ahead and ordered both Z lenses too.  Maybe we won't be too disappointed. I ordered it about a week ago and everyday I keep wondering if I did the right thing. lol  I'm not usually so wishywashy about buying things...but I guess I'm planning on shooting this thing for the next few years.  I don't want to have any regrets.

Where did you order yours from? Do you know when you will be getting it?

I ordered mine from Nikon direct. I have no word yet on when it will even be shipped.

Ordered mine from my local camera shop and i picked it up today, first thoughts are its small light and the lenses are light, i like what i have seen of it, waiting for the battery to charge but we have 3 r 4 days of rain to come.

Tested it with the adapter in the shop and a Sigma 100-400, it seemed to work well, i would only want a longer lens and a macro so now i have found the sigma lenses work i will be ok.

here the issue with using DX on mirrorless full frame Z6 body. own a Z6 and if i where to use my nikon 12-24mm F/4 dx lens i will be at 11 megapixels so is that what you want. also since nikon crop mirrorless body's will not have ibs you want lens that have VR to use or get no vibration reduction
