From where and to where are you trying to upload a large group of photos?  Otherwise it is not really possible to assist you..

Do you mean upload to Adobe cloud or to ingest them?

Do you use Classic CC or the modern version?

What platform are you on?

The best way to add photos to Lightroom is to use Finder or Windows Explorer to upload the photos to your computer from your memory card first. This can be done either with a built in or add on card reader or by connecting your camera directly to the computer. I personally find using a card reader to be MUCH less hassle. I suggest placing them in individual folders using some criteria such as date or subject rather than dumping them all into one huge directory.

Then, once your photos are uploaded to your computer, you can have Lightroom ADD them to it's database. Doing this does not physically move your photos... they remain exactly where you uploaded them. But it does add the photos to Lightroom's library and you can work with them in Lightroom from that library. You should be able to select multiple photos to add by checking individual photos from Lightroom's import dialog. By default, all photos should already be checked.
