Yesterday morning I had this idea to take some photos to be later used in a timelapse, I have done this many times, with no issue.

This time after about 120 some images, the camera would "power down" for lack of a better term, turning it off and back on did not work, but removing the battery would work, but then in about 120 some images this would happen again.

I do not believe heat was an issue, it was about 60° f with a breeze, and no sun was shining  on the camera yet.

How good is the battery, powering down may have given it time to recover, pure guess on my part :D

Well it happened on two batteries, both of which I bought with the camera last October I have my doubts it is a battery issue, but I could be wrong, at least I hope the batteries would last at least a year. if that is the best Nikon can do then it is time to find another system

You may also want to check the settings on your intervalometer. I had this exact problem once when I was trying to shoot the Perseids a couple years ago. I kept setting up the camera to shoot for what I thought would be hours, and it would quit about halfway through. Turns out I hadn't figured the exposure time into the intervals (and I was doing long exposures, as you can imagine).

I describe my error here: Shooting the Perseids: A Study in Mediocrity - NikonForums.com though I'm not sure it gives any more detail than I have here.
