Hello, I'm Sophie Leigh - I'm new to this forum  :P

I am having strange problems with my new Nikon D3200.

It is second hand, perfect visual condition but otherwise its history unknown.

Almost every time I shoot, there is a HUGE delay in the shutter returning, this is anywhere between 15-90 seconds and during this time there is nothing on the screen, and the green light is only on for the last few seconds of this, After I hear the shutter return, the screen is still blank, and non of the buttons respond except the playback button and sometimes I have to turn it off and on again.

When I view the image taken, it is overexposed and blurred - as if it should have been taken using a tripod! But as i stressed, this happens on ANY setting, including Auto!

I first thought the delay was a data processing error, so I bought a 32GB memory card, and reduced the file size and image quality, but this made no difference.

Anyone have have ideas what the issue could be? Thank you in advance!

First of all... I know zip about the D3200 so anything I tell you is a guess at best. With that out of the way...

It sounds as though the camera is stuck on a long exposure setting. The fact that images are overexposed and blurred seem to confirm that. You don't say how long you've had the camera but I'm going to guess that it's a recent acquisition. My first suggestion would be to do a complete camera reset. This should bring your camera back to it's factory defaults. The procedure for doing this is different on the D3100 and D3200 from it is on other Nikon cameras and is as follows...

  1. Press [Menu] button.
  2. Select the “Shooting Menu”
  3. Scroll through the options until 'Reset Shooting Options' is highlighted.
  4. Press OK.
  5. Highlight 'Yes' and press OK again.
  6. Repeat this for the “Setup Menu”

Once you do this you will have to go through setup again. If you don't have a D3200 manual handy you can download a PDF version from the Nikon website.

Nikon D3200 Page at Nikon.

Give this a try and let us know if it works for you.
