I've had this a couple of years now, taken thousands of photos with it, mainly sport, thougha couple of weddings too. It's a fantastic lens, focusses really fast, very sharp, and easily hand-holdable.

I often use it with the 1.4x TC, image degradation is minimal, focus speed difference is hardly noticeable. With the D7100 I can do a severe crop and still get a great image With the 1.7x it gets a little worse, though I still get many keepers and am happy enough to cover a game with that combo in good light.

The zoom ring rubber has recently decided to loosen off a bit, so I had to get that fixed, but I've used it so much I'm not surprised.

I miss this lens so much I had to sell so I could buy other things. There is no point writing an in depth review of this lens. Simply this is the best zoom lens Nikon make without exception. There are other cheaper pretenders to the thrown form the third party manufacturers I have tried all of them none come close to this lens.

I use this lens extensively when shooting photos of fast moving horses competing in eventing. I find it a brilliant piece of kit. I''m currently using it with my D4s but have used it previously with both a D200 and a D3s.  Just recently it stopped autofocusing. I sent it for repair and the Silent Wave Motor had to be replaced. I had it back in 4 days and, once again, it works perfectly. I don't go far without this lens.
