#62305 Is my issue with my AF Nikkor 55~200mm, VR, ED, DX, IF, SWM valid?

Posted by Tony on 15 May 2019 - 01:20 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

Could it be something mechanical rather than electronic? Is the lens mount on the affected body loose?

Does the affected body misbehave with other lenses?

When I turn off the VR with the lens on the affected body, there is no problem.  I did check the security of the other lenses when mounted on the affected body and there is no play or wobbling.  However, when I shook the lens while off of the body, there was a bit of rattling, not much just a bit.  The shop that I

contacted suggested I bring the lens in with the affected body and they will examine the units.

Thanks for your suggestion.

#62297 Is my issue with my AF Nikkor 55~200mm, VR, ED, DX, IF, SWM valid?

Does it misbehave in the same way if you turn VR off?

Great question.  I have two D200 bodies, one with 25,000 actuations and the other with 95,000 actuations.  The problem occurs only on the body with the

lesser amount of actuations with both VR and auto-focus on.  On the one with the most actuations, the lens works just fine with or without VR and auto-focus on.

I went and cleaned the contacts on the body and lens and the problem still happens with the body with lesser actuations.

#62293 Is my issue with my AF Nikkor 55~200mm, VR, ED, DX, IF, SWM valid?

Posted by Tony on 14 May 2019 - 02:00 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

This lens I believe is quite remarkable for a low end Nikon product.  When I am ready to shoot with the shutter button

pressed half way, the optics jump upwards and without taking a photo, jump back down when I remove my finger.

I did call a local camera service/sales shop and they had never heard of this happening, but suspected that the auto-focus

may very well be the culprit.  I suspect that the optics may well have separated from the adhesive, and that is not good for anyone.  :(

Again, I have no complaints regarding the IQ and overall performance of this lens.

Thanks for reading and for any feedback.

Adios,

PS.  For a little added insurance, I stopped down one full stop to manage the red in this image.  I believe it turned out rather nice.

Greatly appreciated.

Posted by Tony on 09 May 2019 - 01:47 AM in Nature and Animals

I'm really not sure but the flower looks like a Jasmine and in searching the closest I can find it the Pink Jasmine. https://www.etsy.com...BSABEgJ4QPD_BwE

You are correct.  I just checked with my wife and that is what the name of it is.  Thnx, Tony
