#86979 Back when they advertized on T.V.

Posted by lightcapture on 31 January 2024 - 05:05 PM in Photographic Industry

I'm very interested in those Nikon eyeglass lenses you speak of. I've worn progressive lenses for many years but I've never seen a reference to Nikon branded lenses. The wider field of view looks like something I would find useful. I'm also very curious about the active transition lenses that work in the car. I've used transition lenses in the past, although on this go around, my eye doctor ordered lenses without the Transition add on so I've been struggling along with clip-ons, which are not the best option for me.

Can you tell me where you purchased eyeglasses where Nikon lenses and active transition lenses were an option? I would appreciate it.

--Ron

Ron,

I came upon Nikon optical lenses looking for eyewear at Walmart Optical of all places.

Nikon lost their edge to Canon, purely because Nikon really wasn't positioned to "Go Pro" in the digital world.  Canon's neck-deep plunge into broadcast grade TV cams gave them a Digital Education second to none, while Nikon was still wallowing more or less aimlessly to nail down their Digital Concepts.

Any of the broadcast-grade hardware manufacturers had the advantage going into the digital age.  Fujinon broadcast lenses were the standard glass for NFL games for a solid decade, SONY's digital evolution from analog tapes, the same.

Nikon also got lost in the Sporting Optics world, binocs, riflescopes and such.  (they made some VERY good riflescopes, but never built up to the standard of a Nightforce or Leupold MkIV or Mk5.)

Had Nikon maintained a market presence of Serious Gear for Serious Photogs, eschewed the bottom-grade consumer stuff, and put their considerable talent into R&D-ing for that Pro Market, I think they'd have remained at the top.  Even Nikkormat was considered SERIOUS GEAR, in it's day.

I'd love to see a Nikon renaissance and revival!

I don't totally agree with everything you've said. Nikon like all optical manufacturers has to diversify to stay alive. For example Olympus is heavily invested in medical imaging.

I have their binos and they're great. My eyeglass lenses are by Nikon. Chose them because their progressive lenses have a wider field of view than others. Plus the have active transition glass is a step up and will work in a car.

I shot from this week. Making something out of nothing.

Here's one of my all time favorite photos. I saw this elderly homeless lady on the street and snapped two shots before the opportunity disappeared. I inquired about her and she was affectionately know as 'grandma'.

#86901 no more F mounts being made

Posted by lightcapture on 25 January 2024 - 11:57 AM in Nikon News and Rumors

Sad, but times are changing. Good thing there's plenty pre-owned.

Maybe time to retire my D750, FM2n and all AIS and G F mount lenses. I'll bet it will not bring enough to by a basic Z quality system.

I'm going through my archives of photos I never did anything with. This was when I just got my 1st and only DSLR 4 years ago and was testing it w/ my old lenses.

I chose this average photo to play with editing using SilverEfex

Artist painting, I shot B&W directly and I convert to sepia monochrome.

I'm curious why you just copy others artistic work w/ your camera, instead of making your own art w/ your cameras and lenses? Seems like such a waste of your talent.

Pete, this site shows quality of some of the S lenses, but not the latest. Wish it was bit more current but has my lenses. It helped me to decide.

If I had your great camera, I'd invest in the reasonably priced Nikon NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR lens for motorsports.

Posted by lightcapture on 31 December 2023 - 10:30 AM in Mini-Challenges, Member Contests, and Games

So it's still a photo a day challenge? I live in a sterile boring suburb, so it takes me a bit to get away to take meaningful photos.

Thanks Mike. I don't often wander about with the 28-300m, which helped a lot.

Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus are on a different post box, further up the road, outside the 'Cafe on the square '

I understand now, that's just the 3 wise men. I'm amazed that those are outdoor public decorations.

This is really good Pete. Colors, artistic knitting, and subject draw me in. Blurred background adds separation. Where's Mary?

I didn't shoot on Monday, but it's current B&W. Hope this is what you mean by 'Monochrome Monday content'.

Here's the technical info your requesting: RAW to JPEG using Mac's 'Photos' then 'Color Efex' to convert to B&W.
