#52687 Looking for a versatile lens!

Posted by Russ on 27 November 2017 - 05:11 PM in Nikon Lens Discussion

Sigma 17-70 or Nikon 16-80 (both f2.8-4 I think), both offer wider and longer focal lengths. The Sigma focuses really really close too, so good for sort-of semi-macro shots.

#51810 Ripping up dirt

Posted by Russ on 15 October 2017 - 05:10 PM in Sports

Something I wouldn't mind trying too, especially when there is mud flying.

#51210 Third Party Batteries

Posted by Russ on 20 September 2017 - 06:01 PM in Beginner Questions

I've never had one that claims to fit all those cameras, but I've used a few 3rd party ones over the years without problems. I would usually use the "real" one and the others were a backup.

#50959 lens question for nikon d 500

Posted by Russ on 05 September 2017 - 06:05 PM in Nikon Lens Discussion

I know nothing about the 18-140, but the Sigma 18-35 gets rave reviews, with things said such as it is of prime lens quality.

#50773 Holster belts and bags

Posted by Russ on 28 August 2017 - 05:58 PM in Beginner Questions

Check out the ThinkTank range - belt with modules.

#50752 D750 Aspect Ratio in Live View

Posted by Russ on 27 August 2017 - 06:11 PM in Nikon FX DSLRs

Check the switch on the camera back, whether it's turned to the movie mode or photo mode (I think).

#50304 College rugby

Posted by Russ on 07 August 2017 - 06:50 PM in Sports

Cheers Darryl. Coming from the D300s I just use the centre-point and d25 (the old d9). I read about these other modes working but am too scared to try them for real!

#50205 Waterproof covers for D700 & D300

Posted by Russ on 31 July 2017 - 06:09 PM in Bags, Tripods, and Accessories

I use ThinkTank rain covers - excellent.

And I like their eyepieces so leave them on full time.

#50182 D5 - problem with continuous shooting (slower than usual)

Posted by Russ on 30 July 2017 - 06:28 PM in Nikon FX DSLRs

Usually I'd suggest making sure all things like (can't remember the names) auto-dynamic lighting thingy and lens corrections etc are turned off. Maybe a reset?

#50181 Canoe Slalom

Posted by Russ on 30 July 2017 - 06:26 PM in Sports

Nice shot, can't quite decide if I like the "zoomy" effect or not however.

#50104 Roller Derby

Posted by Russ on 26 July 2017 - 06:24 PM in Sports

Ah yeah I saw you'd used the 50 so presumed they all were.

#50086 Roller Derby

Posted by Russ on 25 July 2017 - 06:14 PM in Sports

Good fun!

I didn't check them all, but see the first one is shot at f4, I think you could have gone wider, 2.8 or 2, to lower your ISO, but also to blur the background more.

#50040 Help! I don't know why my d3400 is doing this!

Posted by Russ on 24 July 2017 - 06:10 PM in Beginner Questions

Have you tried reformatting the card, or maybe it's just full.

#49931 camera configuration are displaying on nikon picture

Posted by Russ on 19 July 2017 - 06:10 PM in Beginner Questions

Is it displaying this on your camera or on your computer? if the latter, what software are you using to view it?

#49889 Learn to love auto ISO

Posted by Russ on 16 July 2017 - 05:55 PM in Tutorials & Tips

On my D500 I can now limit the ISO when using flash separately from the non-flash auto-ISO - love it! So two settings for max ISO.

#49576 Nikon D3400 Video Quality Isn't Even as Good as Apple iPad Pro Quality

Posted by Russ on 03 July 2017 - 05:50 PM in Beginner Questions

I don't shoot much video on them, but maybe the "Picture Styles" (or something like that) need changing? Not sure  that is even possible but worth looking at.

If it's grainy your ISO setting must be too high. Check the settings.

Go through each menu item one by one and see if any makes sense to change.

#49077 D750 secondary slot burning up my SD card

Posted by Russ on 11 June 2017 - 06:13 PM in Nikon FX DSLRs

I have not experienced that problem with my 750, sounds rare.

Me too. Definitely needs professional fixing methinks.

#49076 Can someone help me please nikon d7100

Posted by Russ on 11 June 2017 - 06:08 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

Do a reset, may help.

#48957 Hurricanes v Cheetahs - Super Rugby

Posted by Russ on 05 June 2017 - 06:18 PM in Sports

Thanks guys.

TB - I find it easier than soccer as the ball is held onto for longer, just stay in front of the ball and you can't miss!

#48938 Hurricanes v Cheetahs - Super Rugby

Posted by Russ on 05 June 2017 - 04:35 AM in Sports

I have scored a media pass to the top level of rugby behind the internationals this year.
Here's some from the Hurricanes (NZ) v the Cheetahs (South Africa).

#48784 A day at the track

Posted by Russ on 29 May 2017 - 06:24 PM in Sports

Nice, good amount of wheel and background blurring to show the movement.

#48667 Want to Know about MTF charts

#48666 What is the best compact camera with RAW?

Posted by Russ on 23 May 2017 - 05:48 PM in Nikon CX and Coolpix Compact Cameras

I'm probably going to get a Canon G7X II.

See this review of compact cams - https://www.dpreview...st-zoom-cameras

#48665 Grainy, blurry, sometimes perfect.

Posted by Russ on 23 May 2017 - 05:43 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

Donk - the cars in the background are in focus, therefore you've focussed on the wrong thing.
