#83663 Wein Battery Life Span

Posted by daveFM2 on 03 July 2023 - 12:15 PM in Nikon Film SLRs

I don't use the Wein 1.35 mercury replacement batteries in any Nikon, but in my Leica light meters. Remember these are air activated. In general use, again in light meters, life expectancy is a few months at best.

#83342 Two favorite lenses

Dave if your 50mm f/1.2 serial number starts with 414xxx is one AI-S last version not the older AI, you can check in this link.

http://www.photosynt...lno.html#50fast

Now I am looking for one 50mm f/1.2 AI and this theme is a bit touchy for me.

Another obvious difference, orange 16 in the AI-s version, blue in the AI one.

AI version:

AI-S version :

Thanks for clarifying that question. I’ll guess it has to be one of the last out of the factory. Found it on eBay.

#83335 Two favorite lenses

Posted by daveFM2 on 11 June 2023 - 12:31 PM in Nikon Lens Discussion

They are both good choices as favourite lenses.
What versions/revisions are they?
Is the 50/1.2 Ai or Ais?
Is the micronikkor pre- or post 2005? From 2006 onwards, it got a more modern, synthetic grease that doesn't break down and gum up the aperture with age. These serials start at 800001. There might have been a running change from as early as 700001, but this is a point the Nikon historians love to debate.

. The 50 f1.2 is AI 414xxx, the 55 is a super smooth AIS 289xxx. Used on an FE2, and a FM2n. I use Braczko’s Complete Nikon System 2000 for serial reference.

#83304 Two favorite lenses

I have several Nikon lenses, but my two favorite are in the 50 to 55 reach. Talking about my 50 f1.2 for challenging light, and needed speed. My other favorite is my 55 f2.8 micro. Not so fast, but image quality is superb. Regarded as one of the best of best in the Nikon lineup.

#83303 Fuji Velvia 50

Posted by daveFM2 on 09 June 2023 - 07:50 PM in Film Photography

Just received 5 rolls of 36 exposure Fuji Velvia, use by date of 8/24. I’ve used Velvia 50 since the demise of Kodachrome 25 and 64. Sourced from B & H NYC, no I don’t work for them but been a customer since the 1980’s.

#82228 Will film and film cameras experience a renaissance?

Posted by daveFM2 on 14 February 2023 - 07:26 PM in Film Photography

I hate to say it, but no. The commercial world of photography is wedded to digital. The vast amount of money invested in digital production tells you no, to analog photography. The climate fearmongers, particularly in the US will cry, your analog chemicals will destroy the planet. Japan doesn’t seem to have a problem.

#80947 Will film and film cameras experience a renaissance?

From the golden age of 35mm film SLR cameras, the 1970s, a fully mechanical camera of the highest possible quality. They are still working, taking pictures of the same high quality as then. Nikon's professional film SLR camera 1959-1973, the Nikon F. The model depicted is from 1970. It will probably still work 50 years from now, while today's digital cameras (even the most advanced) will long ago have been discarded as outdated technology. They already are after two or three years. Perhaps film production for 35mm cameras at that time has been resumed on a grand scale? The analogue film cameras might have a bright future! What do you think?

On October 20, 2022, Leica announced they were producing a new M6 film (analog) camera. It’s based on the famous M6 from 1984. It will be available beginning November 6th.
