#50056 SDHC card problem

Posted by RoxethRook on 25 July 2017 - 02:32 AM in Technical Troubleshooting

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't have a mobile telephone or a tablet so they are not alternative options I'm afraid

#50032 Files not listed Cannot view files on computer

Posted by RoxethRook on 24 July 2017 - 03:08 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

The specification (from the user manual) of the LX22 shows Data transfer protocol: MTP,PTP.  There is no mention of either Mass storage mode or a means of switching out of PTP.  It used to work but now it doesn't and I can't change the mode so that is not the cause of the problem.  I have tried a different USB port.

I'm afraid I have only the one USB cable so I can't test the theory that the USB cable may be faulty.

Virus protection (AVG) is, like all virus protection software, changing continually.

Would reinstalling the firmware(presently V1.0) remedy the situation?  Is it safe to do so?  Where is the driver located and how do I install onto the camera?

#50002 SDHC card problem

Posted by RoxethRook on 23 July 2017 - 12:55 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

Oops and apologies.

I have looked at date and time change problem on and off for a number of weeks.  I am used to seeing a menu from top down.  It didn't occur to me that I may be seeing only the lower entries in the menu.  I had a brainwave today and tried scrolling up and, of course, the remainder of the menu was displayed.  This includes changing the date and time - so that's that issue resolved.  Another menu item was <reset>.  I thought this was a factory reset which, hopefully would resolve the SDHC issue.

Can the L22 be factory reset?  Would this need a download of the Firmware?  Is this wise?

Thanks.

#50001 Files not listed Cannot view files on computer

Posted by RoxethRook on 23 July 2017 - 12:46 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

Thanks.  I transferred files through Windows Explorer on a regular basis without resorting either to additional software or (until recently) a card reader and I would like to return to that.  I would, therefore, like to explore the possible cause of this issue - if at all possible.

#49984 Files not listed Cannot view files on computer

Posted by RoxethRook on 23 July 2017 - 03:46 AM in Technical Troubleshooting

I have a Nikon LX22 and a computer with Windows XP

When I connect the camera to the computer (using a USB cable) the camera is displayed in the list of devices in Windows Explorer and I get (briefly) an icon indicating a connection between the camera and the computer but the the Files (photos) are not listed.  I have done a reset.

What could be causing this and how can be remedied please?

#49921 SDHC card problem

Posted by RoxethRook on 19 July 2017 - 02:13 AM in Technical Troubleshooting

Brian wrote "firmware should be able to use larger cards than the very first one used with it."  That suggests that a factory reset would return the camera to a state in which it doesn't know what memory card it had and that, having done a factory reset, I could install a larger capacity SDHC, copy all folders and files (which I have already proved can be done successfully with the 4Gb SDHC)  and that would resolve the issue.

I wrote in my first post "The camera and the computer have long since refused to talk to each other so, in order to transfer files, I have to first transfer the card to a card reader - a bit of pain."  This has now worsened.  I went to change the date and and time to find this option does not appear in the menu <Menu><Setup> which now includes ONLY <Copy> and <Firmware Version> but does NOT include <Factory Reset> - unless I'm looking in the wrong place?

All the useful suggestions about using a mobile telephone and tablets is, unfortunately not useful to me as I don't have such things (and at my age don't really want to go there).  Similarly I don't really want to replace the camera which I'm used to - unless absolutely essential.

Where do I go from here?

#48333 SDHC card problem

Posted by RoxethRook on 03 May 2017 - 03:42 AM in Technical Troubleshooting

Thanks.

Nikon does not give the version number of the latest firmware.  I could download it anyway just in case - but how do I get it onto the camera?

Similarly with drivers I could download and install anyway just in case.

You say "the firmware may not account for the difference in card-capacity after the directory files have been over-written."

This sounds as though the camera will work ONLY with the card (or at least one of the same capacity) that was in it when FIRST used.  That is born out by the fact that it is resolutely refusing to acknowledge any card of a higher capacity.  Is it possible to trick it into 'thinking' it has just come from the shop and doesn't yet have a card so will accept the 8Gb card?  Is the file NIKON0001.DSC anything to do with this?

#48271 SDHC card problem

Posted by RoxethRook on 29 April 2017 - 08:47 AM in Technical Troubleshooting

Thanks for your comments.

I was sure that I had copied images to the 4Gb SDHC card and also defragmented that card (which would have changed the location of files to different sectors)and that all files were subsequently viewable on the camera.  I therefore formatted the 4Gb SDHC card (in the camera) and copied from my backup a working sample of the folders and files including NIKON.DSC (the original version not the version presumably created by the formatting process) to the root folder.  All files were viewable on the camera.  With all due respect that brings into question your statements "It still won't copy every bit to exactly the same sectors on the new card." and "if a file is changed in any way outside the camera's control and the camera will not display it." and render files unusable.

Having proved that copying files onto a SDHC was a practical possibility it is a reasonable and logical expectation that if I replicated the same procedure on either an 8Gb or 16Gb SDHC all files should be viewable on the camera.  I ensured the switch position was the same on both SDHCs as on the 4Gb SDHC.  Neither 8Gb of 16Gb SDHC would format in the camera so I security wiped the 8Gb SDHC to remove every last bit of information.  It would still not format in the camera (as the files previously copied to the SDHC in the computer were still viewable on the computer).  This suggests the camera cannot read / write either the 8Gb or 16Gb SDHC.  That is contrary to information in the 'User's manual' (page 110) which states the NIKON Coolpix L22 may be used with SDHC with a capacity of up to 32Gb..

Where do I go from here please?

#48199 SDHC card problem

Posted by RoxethRook on 26 April 2017 - 07:01 AM in Technical Troubleshooting

Just a thought.  Would a copy from SDHC to SDHC (both in card readers) do the trick?

Just another thought.  Is there any software which would 'clone' (everything) from SDHC to SDHC?  That may get around the issue you outlined in your message at 03:57

Apologies for being pedantic.

#48193 SDHC card problem

Thanks for that.

Up to now I have looked at trying to resolve technical aspects as I see and understand them.  Perhaps I should have kept it simple.  How do I transfer files and folders from one SDHC card to another SDHC card and for that card to be usable in my camera?  A step-by-step guide would be most useful.

Thanks.

#48189 SDHC card problem

Thanks.

As an aside to the main query what is the difference between formatting the card whilst in the camera and in a card reader connected to the computer?  Surely a FAT32 format should be the same whatever?

#48182 SDHC card problem

Posted by RoxethRook on 25 April 2017 - 02:54 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

OK,  I've taken a couple of photos.  They are the only ones I can see.

I have copied (maintaining the original folders structure) all the original photos from the 4Gb memory card to the computer and then on to the the 8Gb memory card where they can be viewed but NOT when the memory card is in the camera.

This does not seem logical!

Yes,  I have formatted the card in the camera.

I keep images on the camera because I need access to them when out and about.

#48168 SDHC card problem

Posted by RoxethRook on 25 April 2017 - 02:24 AM in Technical Troubleshooting

I have a Nikon Coolpix L22 camera with a 4Gb SDHC memory card.

The camera and the computer have long since refused to talk to each other so, in order to transfer files, I have to first transfer the card to a card reader - a bit of pain.

I like to keep all images on the card in the camera - although they are copied off to the computer for safe keeping and backing up.  The card is now nearly full so I thought I would get a 8Gb card, transfer all the files and carry on.  However, the camera doesn't recognise the new card returning an error "Memory card contains no images".

I've run out of ideas trying to figure out the cause of the problem let alone how to fix it.

#42356 Can't read files on SD card

Posted by RoxethRook on 25 September 2016 - 01:33 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

Thanks for your response.

I have formatted the SD card and copied the folder DCIM and all its sub folders (1nnNIKON) and files.  When connected to the computer the files are readable bit when in the camera I get the message "Memory contains no images".

What can I do now please?

#42229 Can't read files on SD card

Posted by RoxethRook on 21 September 2016 - 03:18 AM in Technical Troubleshooting

I have a Nikon Coolpix L22.

Having found a number of files missing on my original SD card I copied most of them from backup and now have no free space and receiving 'Out of memory'.  Prior to this there was no problem in reading files on the camera.

I purchased a larger capacity SD card and transferred the file NIKON001.DSC to the root folder and all files in the folder DCIM (DSCN.0000.jpg in sub folders 100NIKON) to the new SD card.  The files are readable when the new SD card is connected to the computer but not readable when the new SD card is in the camera.  I suspect the file NIKON001.DSC may be the culprit as the last modification is dated in 2012 but it worked OK when using the original SD.

How can I get the camera to read DSCN files on the new SD card please?
