My reason for uploading this image is to offer a testament to this Nikon gear.  Other than a little cropping, this capture is

pretty much S.O.O.C., and handheld.  The center sharpness and color reproduction I find to be;  Most impressive.  Thnx. :)

#84866 Zoom Creep with my AFNikkor 18-105mm Lens

Posted by Tony on 06 September 2023 - 04:45 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

Thanks very much, Peter.  A little more info.  When the lens is pointed upwards (totally vertical with the front element) that is the only time creep happens.

Turn the lens inverted and there is no creeping.  Not at all.  Since it is still under warranty, the best thing to do is to return it.

Again, many thanks.

Tony. :)

#84816 Zoom Creep with my AFNikkor 18-105mm Lens

Posted by Tony on 03 September 2023 - 05:59 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

Have had this lens for about a month now and just noticed last night a problem with zoom creep.  Should I send it back to

the seller or learn to deal with it?  Is there a home remedy for this issue?

Muchas Gracias,

Tony :)

#84543 Question regarding a new to me Nikon D300.

Posted by Tony on 18 August 2023 - 04:01 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

The only other noticeable issue with the D300 is the very loud shutter.  Perhaps I am used the much quieter shutters on my Pentax and Canon gear.

I do however recall my D200 having a very loud and clunky sounding shutter.  I do not know if anything can be done about a very loud shutter.  :(

Many thnx.

#84542 My First Uploadable Image Using Nikon D300.

Posted by Tony on 18 August 2023 - 03:56 PM in Nature and Animals

What can I say?  I am very impressed with the results.  Using a Nikon D300 and an AF-SNikkor  18~105mm, 1:3.5~5.6 G  ED Lens, the sharpness I believe to be awesome.  No post sharpness applied, I did however do some serious cropping, and brought up

the brightness on the leaves only.

With aforementioned gear:  1/250s, F/11, ISO 800, Manual Priority Mode with Multi-Segment Metering.  F/L @105mm.

Thanks very much for viewing. :)  Plse view large.  Thnx.  TT

#84527 Question regarding a new to me Nikon D300.

Posted by Tony on 17 August 2023 - 04:17 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

A D300 without any firmware updates done maxes out @8 GB, one of the early updates made 32 GB cards usable. Most, but not all, 64 GB cards can be used after formatering them in-camera, but they will only format to 32 GB. I mostly used 32 GB SanDisk Professional cards in the one I had.

I understand.  Thank you.  My mistake was thinking that the camera had a dual card slot.  My computer, unfortunately does not have a CF Card reader.

So now I need to get USB cable or a CF Card Reader.  Any recommendations?

Thnx.  Tony :)

#84513 Question regarding a new to me Nikon D300.

Posted by Tony on 16 August 2023 - 03:53 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

Would you mind sharing the answers?

No, of course not.  The Lexar CF Card is too big.  The camera is old technology and can only handle 8GB or less.  When viewing the image, in the upper

right hand corner, the number of shots taken is displayed this way:  1/1, 2/2, 3/3, etc., etc..  The numbers such as 5.2k or 1.3k indicate how many shots that

can still be taken before reaching CF Card capacity.  Fortunately,  I have two of these Maxell 8GB CF cards, so that helps save a few denaros.  :)

Thanks, Tony

#84498 Question regarding a new to me Nikon D300.

Posted by Tony on 15 August 2023 - 04:28 PM in Technical Troubleshooting

Just received a Nikon D300.  I noticed on the LCD panel the numbers: 5.2 k.  Been trying to find out what that means.

Also, How do I find the number of shots just taken?

Thnx very much.

Tony

Okay, when I adjusted the size of my images to Large, these numbers changed to 1.3 k.  Does this number indicate how many shots can

be taken with this setting?

I also had a problem with a CF Lexar 128GB UDMA 7 160MB/s, 1066X.  The LCD panel had the word "Full" flashing with "0" in the lower

right hand corner.  I replaced the CF Lexar card with an older, Maxell 400X 8GB Maxdata CF and the camera then functioned just fine.

BTW, the Lexar CF card works just great on my Canon gear.  Interesting that the Nikon D300 does not recognize it.

Thanks for your assistance.  Tony :)

Alright, just received all of the answers I needed from Nikon. :)

Thnx.  Tony
