Added this lens to my bag recently and it works great - VR really works well and doesn't seem to cause any grief with battery use. It's not the fastest lens but works well in normal light conditions - if it get's dark, the VR helps with the slower shutter speeds.

This lens is my goto lens at the moment.  I use it to shoot everything from plays, portraits and some still life photography.  It does take some adjustment for shots but it does great on photographing plays.  At the moment this and the lens that came with my D40x are the only two lens that I own and I will be changing that as soon as I can get just a little bit more money.  Overall I like this lens because my shots are better.  The VR helps a lot because when I first started I had a lot of blurred pictures and through this lens that has not been to much of a problem.
