Red-tailed hawk

hawk wildlife

Red-tailed hawk

This was a very lucky shot for me. The hawk would not leave it's tasty rabbit, so I was able to get very close to it. If not my favorite shot I've ever taken, it was certainly my favorite experience.

    Hi asque2000,

This is one of the best wildlife photographs I've ever seen. What a spectacular portrait of this awesome, handsome predator! What is the light dusting on his plumage? Is it snow? If you don't mind my asking, where was the picture taken? What lens did you use on your D200?

May I have your permission to print a copy for my private use (personal, non-commercial)? My wife Sue and I just love this image. I hope it wins this month's contest.

    Congratulations and best wishes,

    Mark H.

Sorry for taking so long to reply to this comment, I haven't checked this forum in a couple months. This was taken in Pueblo Colorado in January of this year. Yes that is snow on it's back, I think the rabbit  froze to the ground, so the hawk came in and couldn't fly off with it, but also wasn't willing to leave it so it allowed me to get really close (sadly, that's my driveway in the background).  I have a 18-200mm Nikkor lens and it was at 200mm I believe.

You can certainly print it and share it etc. I believe all my info is in the metadata and I don't really stand to make any money off of this photo so it's no loss to me. Thanks!
