Help! D300 or D7000?

Posted by scoobymax, 10 October 2013 · 830 views

I've been given the opportunity to upgrade and I just can't make my mind up! Please help, what does people recommend?!

Your lenses are DX so I might be tempted to go D300s but for longer term use I would def go D700

Ye that's what I thought about it all! To be honest the D7000 is a bit over my budget at the moment, and I'm looking for the higher FPS as I love shooting wildlife. The D300 can go upto 8fps with the battery pack I believe?

I could get the d300 with battery grip, 2 spare batteries and remotes for £400, would that be a good deal in your eyes?

Brilliant deal But check the shutter count if you can shutters rated at 100,000 shots and Ive seen some on Ebay recently with 95,000 shot count

Ah! Ok, I will check on that. Thanks mate.

They are telling us the D300 shutter is 150000. It should go beyond that. Nikon is being conservative in what they say. Also the D300 is an all metal body. Almost bullet proof.

I have the 300 as well as the 800, 5100, 90, 300s,7000, and 700. I find I have been using the 7000 more than any of them here lately! I do use all FX glass and lately I have paired the 7000 with the 28 to 300 -- it rarely comes off the camera. I find the 7000 to be light, easy to use and does a bang-up job. I rarely use the 800 because the files can be as large as 95mb and it takes forever to download -- and fills up my computer too quickly. I like shooting RAW and find with the 800 I'm usually shooting fine to cut down on the file size. I use it when there is very critical work to be done. I like the 700 very much, but it and the 300/300s is getting to be older technology. The 7000 is 16mpx vs. the 12mpx on the 300 and 700. The 7000/7100 also has a titanium frame and is very sturdy. I think I would look to the 7000 before going with the D300. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the advice Mike, you must have read my mind! I did infact purchase the D7000 a few days ago! Mainly for those two points you just made, the titanium frame and the higher Mpx over the 300. I've only managed to get out with it once so far but the rain soon put a stop to any decent pictures! Never mind.
