I recently got one with my 7100 and have found it to be a great lens. Don't seem to see many people using it on here though.
Here's a few shots taken with it

I dropped my 50-300 and bought this one to replace it. Very nice lens for the price, I use mine for wildlife photography. Very pleased with the sharpness at both ends, GREAT Lens.
I've used my 70-300 VR for my long telephoto shots for three years now. I'd say it provides a medium priced, excellent quality, long zoom capability which reminds me of the 70-210 zoom back in my film days shooting Fuji Reala. Nicely sharp images without any especially wonky out-of-focus effects. It's reasonably lightweight for what it is. I'm not seeing the super-sharp results I achieved with the wonderful 105/2.5 prime I had a chance to shoot with on film several years ago but at about 1/4th the price of the pro-grade 70-200 VR it's a great lens. I wouldn't recommend it for sports photography (slow focus motor speed and slow maximum aperture) but then no one would expect it to excel in sports photography.
When I dug out my old D80 a few weeks ago I decided to get the Tamron AF 70-300 Macro for the princely sum of £56,what a find.It covers all of my picture getting requirements. It's permanently on the D80.
