AF Nikkor 50mm F1.8D

AF Nikkor 50mm F1.8D

An affordable, but fast prime lens with manual aperture control, hence ideal for video. On a FX format camera this lens is a general purpose lens, on a DX camera the lens is a short telephoto lens, suitable for group portraiture.

I own the lens that preceded this one, the Nikkor 50mm 1.8 AF.  It is nearly identical save for a coating.  This lens is pretty sharp starting from 2.2, and an exceptional bargain.  It is tiny and light and it focuses fast, and quietly, on my D600.  I borrowed a copy of my friend's 50/1.4G and I find the DOF to be too thin on a full frame camera.  This lens is so good that I won't be considering the 50/1.4 or the more modern 50/1.8 G lenses.

I did notice some purple fringe in high contrast areas.  Distortion is almost non-existent.

A bargain and practical in every sense of the word.

Street photographer rejoice small and packs a punch

Shoot and enjoy

This is a stunning lens. It is fast, quiet, and very sharp. Has very nice bokeh also. The only drawback is that it will not autofocus on the low end bodies like the D3200/D5200 that don't have a focus motor in the body. This is a great walk around lens, and makes an awesome portrait lens on a DX body, like the D7100.

Fantastic lens, with the drawback that it will not autofocus on my D3100.  The 50mm focal length becomes a ~75mm though which is absolutely beautiful for portraits and other work usually done with a much more expensive 85mm.

Awesome lens for the buck. Build not as good as the AF-S but for the $89 I paid for an open box special. Can't be beat. Sharp as a tack on or about F8.

Agree with everything said above me. Great lens!! Bought mine used on a camera body for my son as a birthday present. He will now get my 18-55mm kit lens while I happily use this lens. Even with the issues of this one being old and used (slightly scratchy focus ring) I love it!!! 5/5 every time, no question...

I just received this lens today to use on my d3500  I had problems getting the shutter to operate even after switching to manual mode.  I set it to manual and the back display would switch back to A mode.  I finally got it to stay on Manual and made a few pictures but the auto focus wouldn't work and no metering that I could see.  I'm new to Nikon and a D3500 so still learning.  It's been many years since using a Minolta SRT 201 so I will have to relearn some old film operation tricks with this lens, but it looks like it will be a great addition.
