Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 10 April 2016, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style--just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

P.S. Come play with us in the editing exercise.

Finally sun came out, the rain stopped and I got out and shoot some flowers. Everything was shot outside apart from the first image :)

Wow--they are all lovely, Urban, but that first one is so dramatic!

Thank you for your kind words, Nicole. I like the 1st one as well. I will try focus stacking on that one this weekend. I can imagine it won't be as dramatic as this one, but I will do it nonetheless.

A first attempt of a wide angle view with a short DOF.

gallery_1251_413_52524.jpg

144 stitched photos with the 105DC @ 2.8 and DC @ 2.8R

D700

ISO: 200

Aperture: 2.8
Shutter: 1/800

The original's 352 MP reduced to 45 to be able to run SEP for the monochrome conversion.

What I was after was a short DOF as if it was shot on a LF camera with a wide lens, something like a 8X10 with a Super Angulon 47.

I finally made it through the multiple youth rugby games from last Sunday!  Here are a few...at least one from 10 and under, 12 and under and 14 and under games...All with my D4 and 200-400 at ISO 400 unless otherwise noted...

Starting with the 10U...They played across the width of the field instead of the full length...a few other rule changes as well...

JoCoToday-8814.jpg

400mm, f4, 1/1600

JoCoToday-8937.jpg

400mm, f4, 1/2000

Then a 12U shot - only got one of their games...it was full field but with some rule changes...

JoCoToday-9148.jpg

400mm, f4, 1/2000

And then some of the 14U...as near as I could tell, it was the normal set of rules for them...

JoCoToday-7347.jpg

70-200 @ 98mm, f4, 1/1600

JoCoToday-8410.jpg

200mm, f4, 1/1600

JoCoToday-8415.jpg

200mm, f4, 1/1600

I had lots of fun but the sun was tough and LOTS of images to get through during a busy week!  Shooting High School Rugby at the end of the month!

Yesterday while driving in the neighborhood, I noticed a cactus about to bloom.  I want back early this morning before the sun shined on it, and sure enough it had bloomed.

Shot with my Sony A6000, 16-50 lens, 1/80 @f10, iso auto.  Unfortunately I hadn't noticed the background on the one shot until I got hime and uploaded the file.

It was cold this weekend- unusual for April in Virginia. The Blossoms didn't seem to complain... I used quite a few longer lenses on the Rangefinders.

An early Canon "Serenar" 100F4, on the M Monochrom.

An equally early Nikkor 13.5cm F3.5, "Made in Occupied Japan", ~1950.

Wide-Open on the M9.

An "Arco 13.5cm F3.5 Tele-Colinar"- got this lens for $15, Leica mount.

TBonz--those are some intense shots! Nice work (and is that a girl I see in the first one?? Good on her!!).

Peter--thanks for sharing your Brenizer results. I went and looked at the images you have in the Dropbox--it's great to see what you have done! I need to try it soon.

Dean--those cactus blooms are so lovely and colorful! Glad you caught them!

Frank--that is a spectacular landscape image--so very striking. And well processed too! I keep going back to it...

Brian--I love to see what you're doing with these old lenses. I like that Canon shot--it seems so sparkly...nice effect. The backlight on that last image is particularly nice as well.

Patrick--is that a turtle? What a cool shot! And it's fun to see those little guys with Pentax cameras--it would be fun to see what images they came up with.

I don't have much to show this week. I did one portrait session and had no time for anything else, so I skipped my P52 assignment.

Thanks Nicole. Yes that is a turtle. I saw their shots and actually have on set of them.. The one in front had my old DL and one of my   memory cards. They have some nice shots , some really nice shots,as well as some funny ones. I might post a few in a separate thread if anyone would be interested.

That would be fun to see--why not? Maybe we should have a kids thread in general. I know my six-year-old loves to take photos as often as I'll let her. Kind of fun to see what she does.

Nicole, it is amazing how far stitching software have come since I did my first attempts around 2006. Then, I did multi-row stitches refocused between frames to maximize DOF instead. There is an old thread here. This kind of Brenizer in reverse needed a steady tripod, an old-formula lens like a Sonnar or double-Gauss and lots of manual fiddling to look good. With apg, I can handhold and the software gets things right without ghosts as long as there is enough overlap.

Here are two captures from last week, showing views on a small village in Luxembourg.

But this is mostly about experimenting with the Silver Efex Pro, which is part of the NIK collection that is now available for free. (Thanks again Tom for having made us aware about that)

Jerry, those are beautiful--and the processing looks fantastic. I use my Nik plugins all the time! Glad you were able to get them.
